If you’re a regular viewer of the hit travel show Sydney Weekender, you might have seen a special feature about our very own Newcastle Food & Flower Markets!

We were incredibly honoured to be visited by Mike Whitney for a special segment on ‘What to do on a weekend trip to Newcastle,’ aired on Sunday October 27th.

The Sydney Weekender crew visited us in July, spending the day with our dedicated team and a huge turnout of our local customers and supporters.

We gave Mike a taste of ‘The Famous,’ our flagship bacon and egg roll made with Denman raised pasture-fed pork, eggs from The Local Yolk, and a handmade brioche bun.

Speaking with Jess in our Flower Market greenhouse, Mike was especially taken by our Curly Sues, also known as an Orchid Cactus or a ‘Epiphyllum monstrosa.’ Curly Sues are known for their twisted green locks, making them the perfect choice for a striking hanging basket in your own garden. However, Mike was most impressed that he’d managed to find a plant that matched his own curly hair!

The floral fun didn’t stop there, as our own in-house floral expert Emmah created a personalised flower crown for Mike in our freshly renovated flower market. Emmah designed the crown using Dollar Gum, aka Eucalyptus, and Geraldton Wax, a native flower of Western Australia!

Despite getting one of his own, Mike proclaimed that the real crown should go to our founder Jess and her team for creating a community-focussed market for the people of Newcastle.
